Steven E. Braverman, M.D. serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the

Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Braverman oversees health care operations for 18 Veterans Integrated Service Networks, covering all the VA Health Care Systems across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the Philippines. This coverage includes 172 Medical Centers, and 1,198 outpatient sites of care. Dr. Braverman provides

executive leadership and oversight to the Healthcare Operations Center and 34 program offices within Office of Integrated Veterans Care, Patient Care Services, and Clinical Services.

Dr. Braverman previously served as the interim and permanent Network Director

(ND) for VISN 22, VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network from May 2023-November 2024. He

served as the Medical Center Director of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System

September 2019-April 2023 and Hospital Director of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital 2016-2019. He is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Braverman retired from the Army on October 31, 2016,after 29+ years of service in the Army Medical Corps as a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. His last duty assignment was as Director of Program Analysis and Evaluation for the Army Medical Command and Office of the Surgeon General. Healthcare leadership assignments include: Director (Commander), Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Director (Commander), Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, TX; Director (Commander), Ireland Army

Community Hospital, Ft. Knox, KY; and Deputy Director (Deputy Commander) for Clinical

Services, Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, SC. Healthcare staff positions

include Medical Corps Deputy Corps Chief and Corps Specific Branch Proponent Officer; Chief of the Clinical Services Division, US Army Medical Command; Deputy Director of Health Policy and Services, Office of the Surgeon General; Chief Consultant to the Army Surgeon General; Command Surgeon, National Defense University; and PM&R Consultant to the Army Surgeon General.
