Biography: Lt Col Charisma Evangelista, MD, MHPE
Lt Col Charisma Evangelista is a prominent leader in military medicine, currently serving as the Ophthalmology Flight Commander at Wilford Hall Eye Center, JBSA Lackland. In this capacity, she leads the DoD’s largest eye center and residency program. She also serves as the Refractive Surgery Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, ensuring elite standards of care for service members.
An alumna of the Uniformed Services University (USUHS), Lt Col Evangelista completed her residency at SAUSHEC and a specialized fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Her career includes a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support.
An Assistant Professor at USUHS and a member of the San Antonio Eye Bank Board, she has authored over 60 academic publications and abstracts. As a principal investigator on multiple DoD-funded grants, her research continues to advance laser vision correction and ocular readiness across the force.
